Converters such as Yellow Jackets allow you to substitute your octal output valves with EL84's. These current limiting voltage conditioning adaptors gives power reduction and the option of using your amp in Triode or Pentode mode. These offer a cost effective way of power reduction.
These converters are for Fixed Bias amps only.
Also known as adjustable bias as the output valves have their cathode connected directly to ground and a negative DC voltage applied to their control grid.
They cleverly provide the necessary plate voltage drop and current limiting on the screens as well as blocking the amplifiers grid bias voltage while configuring the EL84 in a Class A.
Examples of amplifier that use this circuit are Fender Hot Rod Deluxe, Fender Blues Deluxe and Marshall JCM 800.
