These are early production 6L6GC General Electric with white GE logo printed on the glass . The valve has the grey plate clear top and Dual D side getters. They also have the words 6L6GC USA etched into the glass which is a trade mark of General Electric. These were the valve that characterised the American guitar sound.
6L6GC General Electric become the reference standard to which all 6L6GC are compared too. They were considered to have a better clean sound with a larger sound stage than the RCA 6L6GC. They also have that classic crunchy distortion.
In overdriven mode they produce a punchy controlled sound with more midrange emphasis. Bass response is deep and very fat sounding and when pushed into distortion still mains a musical, easy on the ear sustain.
When run very hard with plenty of gain and the General Electric 6L6GC retained the warmth and dynamics with a little more compression on the notes. The hallmarks of this valve is that it produces a large dynamic soundstage and when pushed hard adds a little compression into the sound.
So for these reasons the early 6L6GC General Electric in was considered by some to be the best sounding 6L6GC.
