Way Huge was launched 1992 by founder Jeorge Tripps and made some legendary pedals. In late 1999 the company closed its doors when Tripps went to work for Line 6. In 2008 Tripps and the company moved to Dunlop Manufacturing and resurrected the Way Huge line.
The Overrated Special was designed by Way Huge founder Jeorge Tripps and guitar legend Joe Bonamassa. The pedal is essentially a hot rodded Green Rhino tubescreamer style pedal with a more pronounced midrange. The Smalls version of the Overrated Special Overdrive pedal sits in a smaller pedal board friendly enclosure.

The Pedal features Volume, Tone and Drive controls. Designer Jeorge Tripps added a 500Hz Frequency controls that offers boost or cut around that low mid frequency area. This allows you to add bite and definition.

The Overrated Special possesses a natural musical aggression. In use you could say that is a Green Rhino Extreme as I found it more aggressive and punchy than a Green Rhino. This added more crunch to a clean channel and it remained transparent but at little less so than a Green Rhino.

This pedal really does sound at its best when you get the amp breaking up and then kick in Overrated Special Overdrive. No matter what it was put through from a 5 watt Epiphone valve junior or a Marshall Class 5 to a Master volume Marshall 100 this pedal delivers by adding saturation and rich harmonics. Run the Overrated Special OD in front of a clean amp for a gritty boost, or kick it in on an already distorted channel for an increase of gain and sustain.

Jeorge Tripps has designed some of the world's finest guitar pedals and this collaboration with Joe Bonamassa has given us a super mid focused OD pedal that is amongst the best, the sad thing is that it a limited edition.
