Blackstar guitar amplifiers have quite rightly caused a major buzz in the music industry since their launch back in 2007. By upgrading the valves to our selected sets customers have been able to voice their amps to their personal requirements. Customers have reported a range of benefits when upgrading the valves over the factory items. Here we have listed our most common upgrades using current production and the best new old stock items to help you get the most out of these fine Blackstar amplifiers.
This Classic Mazda EF86 upgrade kit covers the Black Star Artisan 30 Head & Combo. It is designed to provide early break up so you get a hotter more crunchy sound from you Blackstar EF86 Channel.

If you want a hotter vintage sound then this is the kit for you.

The Harma ECC83 Retro provides a harmonically rich and detailed sound with excellent 3D midrange warmth. This valve has a traditional British voiced sound that has a huge singing sustaining tone when overdriven. The outstanding feature of this valve is its smooth linear midrange response and extended frequency response so you get smooth warm overdrive with tight fat punchy lows.

The Harma EL84 Retro has a deep well defined tight bass that produces the classic slam of the Mullard in the bottom end. The midrange performance has been tweaked to provide warm clear detail at low volumes with clear articulation and smooth even distortion when the amplifier is cranked. This gives the amp a punchier British sound with that warm midrange response.

The heart of the Black Star sound is the classic EF86 channel and to get more gain from this Channel we use a Mazda EF86. The EF86 Mazda excels in guitar amplifier applications due to the design of the Russian Mazda EF86. It has a lower output impedance; the result is 10 % more gain when compared to other modern and new old stock EF86s. The Mazda EF86 also has a real musical break up and has a tight focused distortion.

The Harma GZ34 Retro is modelled on the Mullard military CV 1377 GZ34.
This valve uses Mullards compact serrated anode design with a double supported getter.
The Harma Retro GZ34 also provides correct rectification no reduction in B+ voltage unlike many of the modern GZ34 on the market.
