Black Star amplifiers have quite rightly caused a major buzz in the music industry since their launch. This has been due partly to some very clever designs but more importantly to some very fine sounding amplifiers. In these valve and speaker upgrade kits we have put together some of our most popular upgrades in order for you to get the best sound out of these excellent amplifiers
This Classic upgrade kit covers the Black Star HT Stage 60 combo and fitted with the Harma Classic Ruby speaker is designed to provide you with a sparkling and harmonically rich top end tone with enhanced midrange warmth and clear biting top end. This will suit the player who needs versatility of sound for playing a wide range of music from the Beatles through to ZZ top.

We use a combination of the best of the current production items and new old stock to achieve this.

The Harma ECC83 Retro provides a harmonically rich and detailed sound with excellent 3D midrange warmth. This valve has a traditional British voiced sound that has a huge singing sustaining tone when overdriven. The outstanding feature of this valve is its smooth linear midrange response and extended frequency response so you get smooth warm overdrive with tight fat punchy lows.

The Philips ECC82-6189W is a special military grade valve made with the highest grade materials and with no compromise on selection or quality control. These valves have high grade filament isolation so even after long periods of use the filament will not degrade. The 6189W were designed to be immune to shock and vibration as they were designed for military aircraft and they were also rated for long life. The 6189W improves the amplifier as it losses the grainy unmusical fuzz that is displayed by many modern ECC82 in the Black Star.

The Harma EL34 Retro is modelled on the famous Mullard EL34 XF2 and has been designed specifically to enable you to capture that famous Mullard EL34 sound.
The result is a tight bass response with a well-balanced sound stage and clean aggressive treble.

The valve has also been designed to overdrive earlier and when overdriven mode the Harma has a more forward sound in the mid and top and will break up earlier than the Svetlana EL34. The main difference and feature of the Harma EL34 Retro is that the treble response is more aggressive. This gives the amp a punchier in your face British sound that some customers prefer and is ideal for rock and giving you a little more edge.

The Harma Classic Ruby combines the open top end chime and harmonic mids of the Original 1960’s Vox blue with a tight low end and the added bite of a ceramic magnet. The result is a speaker that will make your chords shimmer and sparkle, your lead sound sustain with vintage harmonic warmth and the most desirable bottom end in the business which is rounded and extremely tight.

The kit consists of

2 Specially Selected Harma ECC83 Retro
1 Specially Selected Philips ECC82-6189W
2 Specially Selected and matched Harma EL34 Retro
2 Harma 12 inch Ceramic Classic Ruby 50 watt 16 Ohm speakers

Please note that the kit is for the valves and speakers only.

Here is what Ben Butterworth said after fitting the Classic Ruby in his Hughes & Kettner
Switchblade 1 x 12 combo.

“The amp really sparkles on the clean channel, the crunch and overdrive channels are warmer and better defined, both in terms of tone and note definition. There’s also another phenomenon which is hard to describe, the amp isn’t louder, but it somehow has a real presence now. The red chassis also happens to look the b*llocks.”
