Black Star guitar amplifiers have quite rightly caused a major buzz in the music industry since their launch back in 2007. By upgrading the valves to our selected sets customers have been able to voice their amps to their personal requirements. Customers have reported a range of benefits when upgrading the valves over the factory items. Here we have listed our most common upgrades using current production and the best new old stock items to help you get the most out of these fine Black Star amplifiers.
This Classic Philips 12BH7A upgrade kit covers the Black Star HT5C, HT5R ,HT5-RC ,HT5 210 and HT 5 112 heads and combos and is designed to provide the ideal combination for those who demand a tight driving rock sound with plenty of rich sustain. It is an effective upgrade over the stock valves for those who want a more authentic rock sound with more treble clarity and less fizz when compared to the stock valves.

We use a combination of the best of the current production and new old stock items to achieve this.

The Harma ECC83 Retro provides a harmonically rich and detailed sound with excellent 3D midrange warmth. This valve has a traditional British voiced sound that has a huge singing sustaining tone when overdriven. The outstanding feature of this valve is its smooth linear midrange response and extended frequency response so you get smooth warm overdrive with tight fat punchy lows.

The American made Philips 12BH7A is a classic NOS valve that gives the Blackstar a rich warm vintage sound that is great for all musical applications. It sounds great with pedals or clean boost units as this valves sound gets fatter the more you overdrive it.

Its strength is that it handle pedals really well and supply's a smooth warm overdriven tone. When using single coil pickups notes are clear and warm with no hint of mush or Fuzz. When overdriven, the Philips tone gets fatter and has a nice warm midrange punch with plenty of bass depth. When the valve is pushed it produces a dynamic crunchy overdriven tone. This is the best new old stock valve I have found for this purpose.
