This kit is designed for the Classic Rock player to give a vintage tone with a punchy attack and sonic clarity that is only available by using an original small bottle 6L6WGB. This gives the right combination required for classic rock even at high volume levels.
The Harma ECC83 Retro pre amp valve offers more harmonic warmth with more transparency in the midrange than 12AX7 Chinese or the Electro Harmonix 12AX7 with a little less gain. The outstanding feature of the Harma ECC83 Retro is its smooth linear midrange response and clarity under overdriven conditions. So you get smooth warm singing overdrive with tight fat punchy lows. The combined warmth with the attack of the Philips makes this superb combination for the Classic rock player.
The Philips 6L6WGB-These are the original small bottle American Military JAN 6L6WGB/5881 that was made for the USA Military in the mid-1980's These are Full Jan Specification which means that they are long life and superbly made with the highest grade materials. No modern day 6L6GC valve is made to this specification.
In my own 5150 mark 1 this is my personal favourite for playing classic rock. The real feature of this valve is the tight midrange attack of this valve. It provides that rich midrange punch that is clear and even which is the character of the original 5881.
Solo's and riffs are fat with a warm sustain and the Philips 6L6WGB does not get muddy and fizzy under extreme saturation. The combination of tight saturation when the valve is pushed and the harmonic kick that the Philips valves provides to the sound makes this a rockers choice.
