Laney Amplifiers were born in the West Midlands in 1967 by Lyndon Laney. The West Midlands was UK industrial heartland and Lyndon who was playing with The Band of Joy which included John Bonham on drums and Robert Plant on vocals wanted to design amplifiers that sounded different from what was commercially available.

The West Midlands has given us some of the greatest bands and most talented musicians that the UK has ever produced. So it is no surprise that Laney has grown into a multinational company with a loyal and strong customer base.

Laney can be rightly credited with the design of amplifiers that founded Heavy metal as Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath has been a lifelong user of Laney amplifiers. Today, Laney Still works with Black Sabbath and modern artists such as The Prodigy, The Foo Fighters, and Skindred. Laney are the jewel in the crown of UK amplifier manufacture as they continue to product a range of well-designed good sounding amplifiers. These upgrade kits are designed to help you get the best out of these British designed Amplifiers.

The Laney Classic Retro 5881 full revalve kit is designed to give you an instant upgrade
and combines a warm traditional British rock sound with the tight and punchy focus of the 5881

This is done by using modern day production ECC83 Harma Retro valves which are traditionally voiced and the original Military Harma 5881.

The Harma ECC83 Retros provide a harmonically rich and detailed sound with 3D midrange warmth that produces a huge sustaining tone. The outstanding feature of this valve is it smooth linear midrange response and extended frequency response so you get smooth warm overdrive with tight fat punchy lows.

These original 5881 produce a very tight and focused sound with immense attack. Laney used these as these valves produce a tight crunchy wall of sound which is very punchy and ideal for many forms of musical styles.

This combination gives the best sound in the LC30 in my opinion as you get a tight very punchy slightly aggressive sound that will suit many Rock players. You will get improvements, such as a crystal clear top end with more extension and clarity when used clean over the EL34 If the valve is pushed with the pedals at the front the treble is forward and nicely aggressive without any fuzz. If you scoop out the mids then you still retain the punch and clarity unlike many other 6L6GC types. The bass response is far tighter and clearer and more extended than an EL34. So if your LC30 is fitted with EL34 I would get a local tech to rebias it for the 5881. As when using the overdriven settings the combined characteristics provide a warm sustaining sound with plenty of upper harmonics with excellent slam and projection on solos. This aggressive natural tone will really bring back the kick into your Laneys' sound.

The Kit consists of 6 valves.

3 x Specially Selected Harma ECC83-Retro
1 x Specially Selected & Balanced Harma ECC83-Retro for the phase splitter
2 x Specially Selected Harma 5881 in a matched pair.

Please note that this kit is for the valves only
